Podcast Extra - April 19

With no midweek game, the 2-2 draw with Sunderland is top of the agenda on this week’s Podcast Extra, which also features more discussion on the South Stand initiative, the success of Reading Women and an in-depth preview to Saturday’s trip to Sheffield Wednesday.

Edging slowly towards safety, Reading have reverted to something of their former selves under Paul Clement, almost like the team that started the season; good in defence, poor in attack.

Breaking down exactly how the Royals are playing with the new boss now five games into his tenure, and still unbeaten at home, Marc and Dave ‘Handbags’ Harris discuss the 2-2 draw at Sunderland, answer your questions in the mailbag, and preview the trip to Sheffield Wednesday.

We also provide an update on the new South Stand singing section being trialled with Handbags revealing where the project goes from here.

For the midweek game at Fulham, Johnny Hunt of our Hunty’s Column fame walked from Berkshire to West London for suicide prevention charity CALM and you can read his story and donate here.

Podcast Extra - April 12

A narrow 1-0 defeat at Fulham was better than what most fans expected at Craven Cottage, with Olly and Tom also surprised that the Whites' goal count wasn't more. The pair also discuss the impressive form of Liam Moore and Tiago Ilori, predict how the relegation battle may pan out and look ahead to a big game on Saturday against Sunderland.

It’s time to ramp up the noise levels at the Madejski Stadium and Saturday’s win over Preston saw a new fan initiative kick off with a gaggle of noisy Royals stationed in the South Stand.

On this week’s TTE Podcast we explain what it is and discuss how to boost the atmosphere at Reading, helped along by a second straight home triumph for Paul Clement.

Marc Mayo and Simeon ‘BucksRoyal’ Pickup also run through your questions in the mailbag, chat the daunting midweek trip to Fulham, and work out the mathematical pathway to safety.

For that venture to Craven Cottage, Johnny Hunt of our Hunty’s Column fame is walking from Berkshire to West London for suicide prevention charity CALM and you can read his story and donate here.

Should we have seen the defeat at Villa coming? Olly and Tom look back on Paul Clement's first loss as Reading manager, including Dave Edwards' first career red card and some worrying statistics. There's also praise for LFE Apprentice of the Year Danny Loader, whilst Saturday's clash with play-off contenders Preston is also previewed.

There were a number of heroes from Reading’s 1-0 win over Queens Park Rangers but the thankful thing is that the Royals came away with three massive points to kick off the Paul Clement era.

Marc Mayo and Jonny Williams go over the game in detail in the latest TTE Podcast, analysing the dogged determination, tactical nuances and, yes, luck that brought Reading a vital victory.

The international break was anything but quiet for Reading, so Olly and Tom return with plenty to talk about. This week's discussion focuses on the Royals' change of manager - the pair analyse Jaap Stam's departure before running the rule over the prospects of the new man in the hotseat, Paul Clement. His first game in charge is against QPR on Friday, a fixture that is also previewed on the Podcast Extra.

It’s always nice to catch up with the old gang and TTE were able to do just that at the 2018 STAR Hall of Fame induction evening, during which 25 icons of Reading FC were recognised.

Marc Mayo and Ben Greenwood were down at the Mad Stad, where we had our own display table and everything, to discuss what these sort of events mean to the club and grab a few soundbites off of the inductees.

In the podcast, Brian McDermott and Kevin Doyle come along for a quick chat before Sir John Madejski is welcomed to the show, as well as former director of football Nick Hammond.

Big thanks to all four of them for taking out the time to chat, to all others who came and spoke with us on the evening, and of course to STAR for putting on a great evening’s entertainment.

The departure of Jaap Stam was confirmed on Wednesday morning by the club with Marc Mayo and Olly Allen convening for an emergency podcast to discuss what went wrong, what went right, and where we go from here.

Analysing the club’s state of affairs and the potential replacements, the guys also give their favourite moment under the Dutchman, and what he has to do to succeed in the dugout.

Podcast Extra - March 15

Olly and Tom discuss a defensive horror show at Wolves, discuss the goalkeeping situation, praise a positive(ish) financial report and look ahead to the trip to Norwich at the weekend in the latest Podcast Extra. There were some problems with the audio whilst recording, but rest assured, normal service will resume after the international break!
