Jose Gomes spent just over nine months in charge of Reading FC, from the final days 2018 to October 2019 - but it is fair to say that there was never a dull moment.

From early troubles and the arrival of the famous five loanees, to a relegation-busting set of memorable wins and a Portugal Day celebration, a lot happened on the pitch as well as of it. The Tilehurst End Podcast sat down with the Portuguese boss to discuss his time at the club, on the pitch and off it.

It’s been just over 60 days since Reading last stepped onto a football pitch and a flurry of news has awoken us from our slumber to remind us that the new season is just a month away...

Marc Mayo, Simeon Pickup and Olly Allen are back to discuss Michael Olise’s exit, the latest transfer gossip, the new kit and how 2021-22 is shaping up for Episode 265 of The Tilehurst End Podcast.

The 2020-21 season did not begin with intrepid fans chuntering up the hill to the Madejski Stadium filled with the boisterous optimism of a new football season. Instead, we sat huddled around our laptops and televisions, desperate for an escape from the outside world. Cause for optimism was in short supply but Veljko Paunovic’s Reading FC delivered from the off, a ray of glorious sunshine from the dark clouds that hung over us all. Suddenly the fans had a team to adore, to enjoy, and to be proud of once again. All season long we tuned in, eager for another glimpse into our footballing dreamland. Alas, just as spring had sprung, Reading’s season died down into familiar, sullen, reality. What we are left with is not an exhilarating play-off period, or the ecstasy of a promotion parade, but the elegant calm of reflection, on a season that charmed, churned and captivated us, when we needed football the most.

It’s that time of year again - Reading’s financial accounts have been published.

Just like 12 months ago, we welcome football finance expert Kieran Maguire - author of The Price Of Football - onto the podcast to dissect the figures.

Kieran gives us the lowdown on just how bad the club’s financial position is, while there’s discussion on how important it is that Dai Yongge remains interested in Reading, whether a points deduction is possible for next season and what the future is for Financial Fair Play regulations.

If you’re boggled by the numbers, this is a must-listen.

One cold spring evening in 2011, a new being emerged from the online swamp on fan punditry and, much to the amazement of all, it still lives a decade on, fully evolved into the thoroughly reliable, week-in week-out 6/10 performer that we all know and love.

Yes, The Tilehurst End is ten years old and to mark the occasion, we hosted a special podcast with regular host Marc Mayo, website founder Dan Wimbush and current editor Simeon Pickup. The guys discuss the pre-TTE days of Reading fandom, how the site has grown over the years and peel back the curtain on the running of the site.
