The Tilehurst End Podcast: Nigel Gibbs Interview
Saturday Jun 06, 2020
Saturday Jun 06, 2020
Not many people can provide behind-the-scenes insight into one of the best periods of Reading’s recent history as well as one of the worst. But Nigel Gibbs, assistant manager to both Brian McDermott and Paul Clement, certainly can.
A legend at Watford as a player, Gibbs chats to The Tilehurst End about his Royals journey, from joining the club in 2006 to help coach the reserve squad, to helping the first team win a magnificent promotion in 2012. He then returned to Berkshire in 2018, by which point it was a totally different club.
The 54-year-old also discusses coaching a young Gylfi Sigurdsson, what happened at half-time in the 2011 play-off final, his favourite Reading memories and more.

The Tilehurst End Podcast: Tom McIntyre Interview
Saturday May 30, 2020
Saturday May 30, 2020
Every Reading FC fan dreams of hopping off their seat and stepping onto the hallowed Madejski Stadium turf.
As Tom McIntyre tells The Tilehurst End Podcast, his first chance to do just that ended in tears - as he was told to stay put while just a kid as fans invaded the pitch to herald the Championship title being won in 2006.
Over the following years, coming through the academy while following the club home and away, he progressed far enough to earn a senior debut last season and has remained in the first-team mix ever since.
The 21-year-old sat down with TTE to discuss life as a footballer during the coronavirus pandemic, how he has enjoyed his time in the Reading team, and his favourite memories from watching on in the stands.

Saturday May 09, 2020
Saturday May 09, 2020
Kaspars Gorkss spent three years at Reading FC; winning a Championship title, dropping back down to the Championship and then very nearly bouncing straight into the play-offs.
As an integral part of that triumphant 2011/12 team, the Latvian takes a walk down memory lane with The Tilehurst End Podcast to discuss his famous goal at West Ham, playing alongside the likes of Jimmy Kebe and Royston Drenthe, and how the Big Bad Wolf became the anthem of their success.

The Tilehurst End Podcast: Andries Ulderink Interview
Saturday Apr 18, 2020
Saturday Apr 18, 2020
Alongside Jaap Stam in the dugout for his spell as Reading manager was his assistant and fellow Dutchman Andries Ulderink, who joins us on The Tilehurst End to give the inside track on working at the club.
Ulderink takes us through how he first started working with Stam and how the opportunity at Reading came about, before discussing the reasons behind their success in their debut season in Berkshire and then why it all went so wrong the year after. The coach also discusses the team’s playing style and his fondness for England, making the interview well worth a listen.

The Tilehurst End Podcast: Simon Church Interview
Saturday Apr 11, 2020
Saturday Apr 11, 2020
Simon Church was only 23 when he played his last game for Reading, and yet he seemed part of the furniture during the Brian McDermott years.
A surprise league debut in the 2009 play-off semi-final against Burnley was followed up by a strong run in the first-team under Brendan Rodgers and McDermott, yet Church was often given the less glorious roles than his colleagues.
That made his contribution to the team perhaps harder to sell, the academy graduate typically running the hard yards to tire the defenders before Adam Le Fondre popped up with the later winner.
But he still played a big role in the Championship title win of 2012 and discusses that success, the fact he never played in the Premier League, and his subsequent early retirement in the latest podcast interview from The Tilehurst End.

The Tilehurst End Podcast: Reading’s 2018-19 Accounts
Monday Apr 06, 2020
Monday Apr 06, 2020
In amongst all the coronavirus chaos, Reading’s financial accounts for 2018-19 were released at the weekend, and were pretty concerning to say the least.
To delve deeper into the report, Olly Allen is joined by Kieran Maguire, author of The Price of Football and a lecturer on football finance at The University of Liverpool. You can find him on Twitter here.
On the agenda: Reading’s worryingly high wage bill, the sale of the Madejski Stadium, what the current pandemic may mean for the whole of the EFL and much more.

The Tilehurst End Podcast: Graeme Murty Interview
Saturday Apr 04, 2020
Saturday Apr 04, 2020
Reading FC won promotion from the third-tier, broke the record for points scored in a Football League season and finished eighth in the Premier League with Graeme Murty bombing up and down the right wing.
Now a part of Rangers’ academy, the Royals legend dropped by for a chat with The Tilehurst End to discuss how he moved down to Berkshire, his early struggles, the relief at breaking out of Division Two, and of course the glory of facing - and beating - some of the world’s very best footballers.
